Our Mission

Our Mission

The mission of the New Milford Recreation Association is to provide a sense of community through the development of wellness and recreational facilities, programs and opportunities to improve the quality of life for residents of all ages.

Wish List

Through incremental development, our organization aims to provide:

  • Indoor pool facilities
  • Indoor gymnasium, including an indoor track
  • Indoor fitness area
  • Community Center
  • Senior Center
  • Outdoor Tennis Courts
  • Fields to accommodate soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse, and other related sports activities
  • Outdoor track, including a fitness circuit
  • Outdoor Ice Rink
  • Wellness Center

The aim is to construct and build the facilities using as much green technology as possible, in keeping with the local architecture and needs of the community.  This is not a definitive list.  Our final development will be dependent on the further definition of needs / requirements of the community, land acquisition, and the amount of funds raised to provide the facilities.

Land

There are a number of land parcels suitable for this development.  The organization is looking at town-owned land, as well as private partnerships.  Due to the sensitivity of this subject, the organization is not at liberty to discuss specifics at this time.

If a donation of land is not forthcoming, the organization will look at long-term leasing options.

We are also researching the town’s Plan of Conservation and Development to see where this might fit.

Funding

Funding will be the biggest hurdle this organization faces.  We are looking at all options, with Karen Ford leading the fundraising committee.  There are federal and state grants to consider, as well as local government grants and bonds.  The Waste Management fund is also being investigated.

Once our company is granted non-profit status by the IRS, we will begin speaking to corporations about donations and grants.

Right now, our company is looking to ‘seed’ the account, i.e. begin building up the bank account for the start-up costs of the business.  We are exploring various fundraising options to achieve this goal.
